How VIXAL works, what it costs, and what you can do with what you make.
Getting started
What is VIXAL?
VIXAL is a production workspace for comics. You describe what happens, VIXAL draws the page, and you arrange the pages into chapters on an infinite canvas — then export, print, or publish the finished result. It handles manga, manhwa, webtoon, and Western comic styles.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Generating requires a signed-in account and credits — there is no anonymous or free generation. Reading anything published on Explore does not require an account.
What generation modes are there?
Single Image for standalone artwork in any supported aspect ratio, and Panel mode for multi-panel layouts — manga pages, comic strips, and webtoon panels. There is also a Character Sheet output that renders one character from several angles, which you can save as that character's reference image.
Can I edit a page after generating it?
Yes. Select the page on the canvas, choose “Edit selected page”, and describe the change. VIXAL revises that specific page instead of starting over. An edit costs the same as a generation.
Producing a series
How do I keep a character looking the same across pges?
Each character in your project has a written profile — appearance, role, personality — plus one reference image. Both are sent with every generation that mentions that character, so the model has a description and a picture to match. It works well in practice but it is not a guarantee: AI generation has no identity lock, so expect to redo a page occasionally. Generating a Character Sheet first and saving it as the character's reference image noticeably improves consistency.
How many reference images can one generation use?
Three in total, shared between your characters and any project images you attach. If you mention three characters in a single prompt, their references fill the budget and no additional project images are attached. Each character profile holds exactly one reference image.
What files can I upload as references?
PNG, JPG, or WEBP, up to 10MB each. Use them to pin down a character's appearance, an outfit, or a color palette.
How do I organize pages into chapters?
Group pages into chapters directly on the canvas, each with its own name and color. A chapter needs at least two pages. Folders are there for everything that is not a chapter — concept art, references, alternate takes. A page can belong to a chapter or a folder, not both.
Can I reorder the pages in a chapter?
Yes. Drag pages into the order you want when you prepare a chapter for publishing, and that order is saved to your project. The print view also lets you set a one-off order for a single PDF. The canvas itself is freely positioned, so where a page sits on the canvas does not decide its place in the chapter.
Exporting and printing
Can I export my pages?
Yes, at any time, and exporting never costs credits. Download a single page, or select several and receive them together. Your pages are yours to take with you.
Can I download a whole chapter at once?
Yes. Select the pages and VIXAL packages them into a single ZIP file. Downloads are capped at 100 pages at a time, so a very long chapter may need two passes.
Can I print my comic as a book?
Yes. VIXAL exports a print-formatted A4 PDF with 3mm bleed and a 5mm safe margin on every page — the layout a print shop expects — with up to 200 pages per file. Pages are generated at 2K resolution, which suits digital reading and small-format printing well. If you are planning a large or professional print run, order a proof copy before committing.
What format are my pages in?
Pages are stored and downloaded as WebP, which keeps quality high at a small file size. When VIXAL builds a print PDF it converts them to PNG automatically, so you do not have to.
Publishing your work
Can I publish my comic publicly?
Yes. Give your series a title, cover, description, and up to five tags, choose which chapters to include, and it appears on Explore immediately. You can publish under a name or anonymously.
Can I unpublish or update a published series?
Yes. Unpublishing removes the series from Explore but keeps its views and likes, so republishing later does not reset anything. Title, description, and tags can be changed at any time. One thing to know: a published chapter cannot be deleted from your project until you unpublish it.
Who can read what I publish?
Anyone. Series on Explore are public and readable without an account; readers only need to sign in if they want to like something. Pages you have not published stay private to you.
Does publishing change who owns my work?
No. Publishing does not transfer ownership. It grants VIXAL the limited hosting license described in our Terms so your series can be displayed on Explore, and you can unpublish whenever you want.
Credits and refunds
How does the credit system work?
You buy credits once and spend them per generation. A page costs 40 credits, whether it is a single image or a multi-panel layout, and editing an existing page costs the same. Organizing, exporting, printing, and publishing are all free.
What does a full chapter actually cost?
Budget around 100 credits per page you are happy to keep — roughly two to three generations per finished page, because most pages take a revision or two. A 20-page chapter therefore lands near 2,000 credits, which is what the Starter pack contains. Heavy revision costs more; a confident page costs less.
Do my credits expire?
No. Credits stay in your account until you spend them. There is no subscription, no monthly reset, and no expiry date.
What happens if a generation fails?
You get the credits back automatically. If a generation fails on our side, or you cancel one that is still running, the credits return to your balance without you having to ask for them.
Can I get a refund?
If you have used no more than 100 credits and it is within 14 days of your purchase, you can request a full refund of that purchase. This is a one-time goodwill refund per account and applies to directly purchased credits. The full conditions are in section 4.4 of our Terms.
Ownership, integrations, and support
Do I own what I create?
You own the images you generate, and we make no ownership claim over them. We keep a limited license to host and process them so the service can run. One honest caveat: AI models can produce similar results for different people, so we cannot guarantee that your images are unique or that they qualify for copyright protection in your country — see section 6 of our Terms. You are responsible for making sure your prompts and uploads do not infringe someone else's work.
Can I use VIXAL from Claude or Claude Code?
Yes. VIXAL runs an MCP server, so you can connect Claude, Claude Code, or Codex and drive your project from there — create projects and characters, write story context, set up chapters, start and cancel generations, and check your credit balance. Connections use OAuth and can be revoked individually from your profile. Uploading, publishing, printing, and exporting stay in the web app.
Can I make anime video?
Yes. VIXAL can turn your characters and story into short animated clips of 10, 20, or 30 seconds, with a timeline editor for trimming, transitions, and audio tracks. Draft quality is for checking a shot; final quality is for the version you keep. Video is priced per second and costs considerably more than a comic page, so the cost is always shown before you generate.
What languages does VIXAL work in?
The interface is fully translated into English, Japanese, Portuguese, and French. You can write your prompts in any language.
